In no place in the country could it be easier to find family-friendly resources and activities than Utah, right? Wrong! At least that was the case before Rachael Herrscher co-founded TodaysMama in 2004.

With three kids under age 2 between them, Rachael and her friend Stephanie Peterson were searching for "mom-and-tot" classes and activities. Surprisingly, they found the search more daunting than expected.

"Stephanie and I were walking through the mall discussing what our summer plans for our very small kids would be," Rachael explains. "I had a brand-new baby and a 20-month-old and she had a 6-month-old little boy. We wanted to know where to find good mom-and-tot swim classes and activities for our small children. We couldn't believe there wasn't more available here in Utah since we are such a family-oriented community."

On the spot, Rachael and Stephanie decided to take matters into their own hands. The result was a 500-page tome detailing all of Utah's family-friendly resources. From that first guide book, TodaysMama has grown into a vibrant, interactive Web-based community serving families in 27 online regions across the country.

Guided by the mission of "Inform, Enrich, Inspire," TodaysMama.com produces online and published resources to support, educate and celebrate the special bond between parents and children.

"We want to be a central resource and to provide the best of both local and national side by side. It's a pretty daunting goal, but every day we move closer to it," Rachael shares. "There's a lot of noise online and in media in general. We hope we can cut through the noise and provide easy-to-access resources for moms and families. It's really all about useful information and plugging into a greater community. We also want to shine a light on the other moms doing inspiring things. It's important to see the good all around us."

TodaysMama.com has undergone a face-lift, complete with new features like enhanced blogging and user-generated content applications. Rachael calls herself a "tech geek" and is excited about the changes on the horizon for her virtual "baby." Her site makeover will create more opportunities for all who rely on the site and its extended community of support.

TodaysMama was awarded the Social Media Club's "Best Blog" award in 2009, much to Rachael's surprise. "I was honored that someone nominated us and even more honored that the panel of judges selected TodaysMama.com."

The TodaysMama community will be leaving cyberspace and coming together in the real world this spring when they host a social media conference for women with MomItForward.com from June 24-26 at the Canyons in Park City. The event will bring together some of the social media elite from across the country from bloggers to social media marketers and thought leaders.

"We are proud to bring this sort of event to Utah," Rachael said. "Whether someone is a blogger, a beginner or someone who would use social media in their business, this conference will have something for them."

At the end of the day, no matter how large TodaysMama becomes, Rachael's favorite part of being the CEO is the opportunity to create something that matters while still having the freedom to watch her baby wake up from a nap or enjoy the walk home with her older kids after school.

Those are the kinds of moments she hopes TodaysMama.com will help create for all the other mamas who rely on the site, "I hope it helps other mothers to see what they can do working from home. I hope we grow and succeed and give other moms and women the validation they need to go and do. I really just hope that in some small way that we provide some bit of information or a referral that makes their day brighter or their life easier. Those little things make a big difference over time."
